Armed security officers perform many of the same responsibilities as other security guards, such as monitoring, patrolling, and screening.

The distinguishing role of armed security officers is their ability to carry and use weapons. While some organizations allow armed security officers to use firearms, other weapons can include pepper spray, batons, tasers, and flare guns.

These security officers typically wear a uniform that shows visitors they can ask the officer for assistance. This role requires proper firearms training and certification to demonstrate the officer’s knowledge and experience in handling dangerous weaponry.
